Silver sulfadiazine has broad antimicrobial activity. It is bactericidal for many Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria as well as being effective against yeast. After application of silver sulfadiazine cream onto the burn wound surface the compound acts a reservoir of silver ions. Silver ion exerts a bactericidal effect on bateria.
